The short version

Earwave changes the sound of your Mac on your Mac. Nothing you play is recorded, stored or sent anywhere. There is no account, no analytics and no tracking.

Your audio

To change the sound of other apps, macOS requires Earwave to capture their audio, which is why your Mac shows the recording indicator while Earwave runs. That audio is processed in memory and played straight back. It is never written to disk and never leaves your Mac.

Calls

While an app is using your microphone and speakers at once, as a call does, Earwave leaves that app out of processing. Earwave never records or listens to your microphone; it only reads whether another app is using it.

Network

Earwave makes one kind of network request: it checks earwave.app for a small file listing the newest version, and downloads the update if you accept it. Like any web request, that check reveals your IP address and Earwave's version to our web host. Headphone search runs offline from the profiles built into the app.

Your licence key

Your key is checked on your Mac, without contacting us, and kept in Earwave's settings on your Mac. A key can carry a short fingerprint of the email it was issued to, so that a leaked key can be traced; the email itself is not in the key.

When you buy or email us

If you email us, we keep the message to answer it. When you buy, the payment provider handles your payment details under its own privacy policy and tells us your name, email and what you bought, so we can send and reissue your key. We do not sell or share that.

This website

earwave.app uses no cookies, analytics or third-party scripts. Our web host keeps standard server logs.
